The Civil Division is comprised of a General Civil Unit and a Tax Unit. The General Civil Unit represents all Lorain County and Township governmental agencies, all elected officials, several public libraries, and multi-jurisdictional school districts. In this role, assistant prosecuting attorneys provide day-to-day legal advice, prepare legal documents necessary for the agencies to perform their functions, negotiate agreements, advise boards and officials, and represent the agencies in various stages and types of litigation.
The Tax Unit represents the Lorain County Auditor and the Lorain County Treasurer in all matters relating to the collection of past due real estate taxes, personal property taxes, and Board of Tax Appeal cases, and initiates foreclosure proceedings against delinquent taxpayers.
Assistant prosecuting attorneys assigned to the Civil Division seek to protect the interests of Lorain County government and the citizens whom they represent.
